How to Create an Article in Your CMS: A Step-by-Step Guide
Creating engaging content for your website is crucial for attracting and retaining visitors.
Here's a detailed guide on how to create an article using your content management system (CMS). Follow these steps to easily publish your content online.
Step 1: Access the Administrator Dashboard
First, you'll need to log in to the administrator dashboard of your CMS. Open your web browser and navigate to the login page. Enter your administrator username and password, then click "Login" to access the dashboard.
Step 2: Navigate to the Content Section
Once logged in, locate the main menu on the dashboard. Find and click on the "Content" menu item, usually found in the top or side navigation panel. From the dropdown or submenu, select "Articles" or "Content".
Step 3: Add a New Article
In the Articles section, look for a button or link labeled "New" or "Add New Article". Click on this button to open the article editor where you can start creating your new article.
Step 4: Enter Article Details
At the top of the editor, there will be a field labeled "Title". Enter the title of your article here. There may also be an "Alias" field which is often automatically generated from the title but can be manually edited if needed.
Step 5: Write Your Article Content
In the main content editor, you'll see a large text area where you can write your article. Use the editor tools to format your text, add headings, lists, links, and other media. If your editor supports it, you may switch between WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) and HTML views for more advanced editing.
Step 6: Set Article Metadata
Choose an appropriate category for your article from the category dropdown. Categories help organise your content. Add relevant tags to enhance searchability. Set the publishing status (Published, Unpublished, or Archived), and you can also schedule the article to be published or unpublished at specific dates and times.
Step 7: Configure Display Settings
Decide whether the title of the article should be displayed when viewing the article. Choose if the author's name should be shown, if the creation date should be displayed, and whether the introductory text should be displayed on list views.
Step 8: Add Media and Links
Enhance your article by adding images, videos, and other media files. Use the "Insert Image" or "Insert Media" buttons to upload and embed files. Highlight the text you want to link, click the "Insert/Edit Link" button, and enter the URL.
Step 9: Save and Preview Your Article
After entering all the necessary details and content, click the "Save" button to save your article. Use the "Preview" button to see how your article will look on the live site. This allows you to check for formatting issues and make necessary adjustments.
Step 10: Publish Your Article
If your article is ready to go live, ensure it is set to "Published" in the publishing options. Click "Save & Close" to save your changes and return to the articles list. Your article should now be available on your website, organised under the chosen category.
